It’s official: a new royal baby is about to arrive at the Windsor house. But the announcement of the second pregnancy of Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s wife, could well mark another step in the rupture between the couple and the royal family.
The royal family will grow. Already Archie’s parents, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will welcome a second child in a few months. The couple have published a black and white photo showing them smiling at the foot of a tree, with the mother’s hand on his round belly: “We confirm that Archie is about to become a big brother.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to be expecting their second child,” said a spokesman for the couple, who now live in Santa Barbara, USA, on Sunday 14 January. The arrival of the one who will occupy the 8th place in the order of succession to the British throne should mark a further step in the break operated by Meghan Markle and Harry with the royal family.
Indeed, as our source specifies, this second child of the couple should most probably be born in the United States, where his parents have been living for several months. However, this would mark a point of no return with the Royal Family, as no great-grandchild of the Queen has been born outside the UK.
Even Archie, the first son of the Sussex couple, who was given dual US-British citizenship by his mother, was born in England in May 2019. In addition, Meghan and Harry should not apply for Royal titles for their new baby, just as they refused to do after Archie’s birth.
Distancing themselves from the royal family
Since their marriage in 2018, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have continued to distinguish themselves from the royal family. Tired, exhausted and hurt by the campaign of harassment by the British media since Meghan Markle’s arrival with the son of Charles of Wales and Diana, the couple had chosen to start a new life far from the UK, in North America.
In January 2020, they had decided to go one step further by announcing that they would “step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent”. Breaking with the tradition that forbids members of the Royal Family to give their opinion, Meghan Markle and Harry also committed themselves in many fields such as the fight against racism or against President Trump.
