This tradition of having these wedding rings made for brides of the British Royal Family from Welsh gold was established in 1923. This ring was made for the wedding of Elizabeth II’s mother and William and Harry’s great-grandmother.

The mine resources from which the metal was mined for the production of the royal rings are now depleted and the mine closed. There is therefore very little Welsh gold left, which is why this gold is five times more expensive than other types of gold. The alliances of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge are made with this type of gold. Meghan Markle’s ring is also made of Welsh gold nuggets, which she received as a gift from Elizabeth II.
