Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are among the list of the 100 most influential people in the world according to Time magazine, which unveiled its selection this Wednesday, September 15

Honors from the press to which they are no longer accustomed. This Wednesday, September 15, Time magazine revealed its traditional list of the 100 most influential people in the world, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle! With this list revealed annually, the American magazine distinguishes a selection of personalities, artists, scientists, activists, politicians, by grouping them not by field of activity, but by their ability to impact: “Icons”, “Titans,” “Pioneers”, “Artists”, “Leaders”, and finally “Innovators”.

Harry and Meghan Markle are distinguished in the category of “Icons”, but have a special status within this section, because they have been honored with the cover of the famous magazine. The couple thus lent themselves to a rare exercise, that of the photo session. The result is the image of this untraditional couple: the prince seems to be in the background, his hand on the shoulder of his wife. One in white, the other in black, they share the same determined look in front of the lens.

“The Duke and Duchess have compassion for those they do not know”
A short text accompanies the Sussexes’ portrait, highlighting the reason why the lucky ones are on the list. In their case, it’s their activism and work with charities that is praised, by chef Jose Andrés. “In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for those they don’t know. They don’t just have convictions. They rush through trials,” he wrote in the columns of Time.

“Throwing themselves into action is not the easiest choice for young dukes and duchesses who have been favored, by birth or by talent, and stricken by fame. It would be much safer to take advantage of their good fortune, and remain silent,” details the chef, who himself made Time’s list, in 2018. “But that’s not what Harry and Meghan do, or even who they are,” he continues.

Prince Harry celebrated on his birthday

“They turn their compassion, into action on the ground, through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to those who have none through their audiovisual production.” And Chef José Andrés knows full well what he’s talking about: his own organization, World Central Kitchen, is the first partner that Archewell, the Sussexes’ foundation has chosen to fund. Archewell’s donations would have allowed this organization, dedicated to fighting food insecurity and providing food aid after disasters, to build “Community Relief Centers”, permanent community centers that can be transformed into emergency kitchens in the event of a disaster. A nice distinction and a nice birthday present for Prince Harry, who celebrates his 37th birthday this Wednesday, September 15.
