Peter and Autumn Phillips announced their divorce in an official statement issued by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 11 February. A decision that puts an end to twelve years of union and sixteen years of living together.

The Queen of England is clearly not over her troubles. Faced with the “Megxit”, the sexual assault charges against Prince Andrew, and Prince Philip’s accident, the sovereign must now deal with the divorce of her grandson, Peter Phillips. The son of Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, announced his separation from Autumn Phillips in an official statement, relayed by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 11 February. After twelve years of union and sixteen years of living together, the couple affirmed that this was the “best way to preserve their two children and a lasting friendship”. The 42-year-old man and his 41-year-old ex-wife had two daughters together, Savannah, 9, and Isla, 7.

A “sad” but “friendly” decision.

A spokesperson of the couple also said that Queen Elizabeth II and their respective families were informed of the decision as early as last year. “The decision to divorce and share custody of the children was made after several months of discussions and, while sad, it is a friendly one,” the official statement said. Both families fully supported Peter and Autumn in their joint decision to share custody of the children.

Their priority will remain the continued well-being and education of their daughters. Peter and Autumn have both remained in Gloucestershire to raise their two children. They have asked for privacy and compassion as the family continues to adjust to these changes.”
