From duchess to princess? According to royal expert Daniela Elser, Meghan Markle could very well decide to take the title of princess. A decision that could cause a stir in the UK.
Since February, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are no longer senior members of the royal family. Archie’s parents are now free from any commitment to the British crown and have also lost their titles and patronages. They can no longer be called “His Royal Highness”, while Archie’s dad has lost his military titles.
A decision validated by Queen Elizabeth II a few days before the broadcast of the Sussexes’ interview with Oprah Winfrey. Yet, according to expert Daniela Elser, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could play a whole new card. “The Sussexes could be posing as a kind of PR martyr, which would reinforce their desire to “speak truth to power,” she reported with Australian media outlet News.com, as also reported by the Daily Star.
An even higher title than duchess
Daniela Elser explains that even though the couple has lost their titles, the parents-to-be can still use Harry’s status as a prince. “He will still officially be Prince Henry of Wales and she, as his wife, has every right to call herself Princess Henry of Wales, like the Queen’s cousin Prince Michael of Kent and his wife Princess Michael of Kent,” the expert said.
If this scenario comes true, Meghan Markle could end up “with an even higher title than duchess.” As a reminder, Archie’s parents have long used their titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex for commercial purposes. But following the Megxit, Queen Elizabeth II had prohibited this use. It remains to be seen if this hypothesis of Daniela Elser will come true, or if the exiles of Montecito will prefer to play the card of peace towards the royal family.
