Meghan Markle: this detail on her outfit is reminiscent of Lady Di

When Meghan Markle appeared on CNN last December, she looked strangely familiar.

On 14 December, Prince Harry’s wife made a surprise appearance on CNN via a video in which she thanked “the heroes in the shadows” who helped the community during the health crisis.

To record the message, the Duchess of Sussex sat on a bench in a flowery garden, “probably on her $14 million California property acquired with Prince Harry”.

Dressed in a low bun with only a few blurred strands framing her face, Meghan Markle was wearing a powder pink blouse with a lavaliere collar. It was precisely this last detail that caught the public’s eye, the lavaliere collar being a real must in the royal cloakroom.

Indeed, the famous ribbon-like bow has been popular with the Windsor family for years. Its greatest ambassador? Princess Diana, who had made it her signature by using it in every way possible during her years with the royal family.

Dedicated to her sense of style, the princess, who tragically passed away in 1997, can count on her two daughters-in-law, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, to perpetuate her love of fashion. Prince William’s wife is also a fervent admirer of the lavaliere collars she wears extensively on her public outings.

In the press, there have been countless occasions when similarities between the styles of the two duchesses and Princess Diana have been observed, whether in tartan or houndstooth printed ensembles, long flowery dresses, colour combinations or even headgear.

Meghan and Kate: battle of style

However, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s style of dress has been a huge hit around the world, with the public even having fun trying to decide between them on the question of what is the best style.

In January 2020, it was the ranking established by the Fashion Retail Academy that took care of it, announcing Kate Middleton as the big winner with 47.8% of the tracks, against 20.1% of the tracks for Meghan Markle. As for Queen Elizabeth, she appeared third in the ranking.
