In her column on Air Mail, Rachel Johnson gave a behind-the-scenes account of their visit to the Sussex wedding. “There’s a story going around that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former roommate, was waiting for the wedding service to begin, she turned to the couple beside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan,” he said, as reported in The Express.
And the answer from George and Amal Clooney would have been astonishing to say the least: “We don’t know them. According to the British Prime Minister’s sister, other famous guests at the Duke and Duchess’s wedding, including Oprah Winfrey and David such as Victoria Beckham “could not have been old and dear friends of the wedding couple”. Often described as a close friend of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the actor never really commented on their friendship.

“I really appreciate this wedding because they seem to be really in love. I go to a lot of celebrity weddings and no one seems to be in love at all,” he is reported to have confided to a source close to the British Royal Family. But as the months went by, a real bond developed between the two couples, who even spent a few days of vacation together.
In Los Angeles, Amal and George Clooney are even important supporters for Archie’s parents. While the Duchess of Sussex came under heavy criticism in 2019, the actor had even publicly defended her. “I think it’s a bit unfair sometimes,” he said in an interview with Good Morning Britain. I’ve seen it before, when the press attacks you for ridiculous reasons and for nothing, and it seemed a bit unfair to me because Meghan has done nothing but live her life”.
