Meghan And The Black Lives Matter

Meghan Markle spoke out on the Black Lives Matter movement in contrast to the royal family and this caused a controversy. Omid Scobie, co-author of a biography of Sussex, believes that Queen Elizabeth II should speak up and take a stand rather than refuse to comment.

Since Meghan Markle resigned her royal duties, she has been able to take a stand on the issues that are dear to her, and that is what she has done by speaking out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement that erupted following the death of George Floyd, an African-American man, during a violent police arrest.

Prince Harry’s wife explained how important it was for her to speak out on this issue, especially since she had been a victim of racism on several occasions, both in her youth and more recently.

Meghan Markle’s reaction is a reaction, especially since the royal family does not want to take a stand on the Black Lives Matter movement. Omid Scobie, co-author of Finding Freedom, the long-awaited future biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, told Newsweek that it was necessary for a large family like the Windsor family to comment on this sad news.

“Racism and police violence are human rights issues, not politics, so everyone should talk about it, even if the Queen can’t talk politics,” the author said.

Omid Scobie goes further, saying that the departure of Meghan and Harry was a great loss for the royal family: “It is at times like these that one realises how much the departure of the Sussex family was a loss for the royal family. Meghan represented inclusiveness, diversity and a voice with which young people from all over the world, particularly in the various countries of the Commonwealth, could connect in ways they had not before”.
