Meghan and Harry: Their position as outsiders in the United States

Since the announcement of the Megxit and their move to the United States, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are perceived as “outsiders”. A behavior that seems to make its effect with Americans.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continue to unleash passions. The tensions between the Sussexes and the other members of the British royal family are at the heart of the minds. If the birth of Meghan and Harry’s daughter, Lilibet Diana, has calmed some discord, the couple keeps a position of “outsider” within the monarchy. A behavior that seems to be appreciated by the Americans.

In an interview with US Weekly, professor Pauline Maclaran, who wrote a book about the royal family and consumer culture, explained how Meghan and Harry sought to develop their American audience. “They launched their brand quite successfully as a kind of ‘rebel royal brand.’ ‘ In doing so, they’ve pushed an outsider narrative,” she said before continuing, “Which is of course a very common narrative that is very successful for brands in contemporary consumer culture.

” She also added, “You know the underdog, everyone loves an underdog and everyone loves to vouch for them. So, by moving to the U.S. the way they did, I think they’re repeating, in a way, that narrative with the way Harry blames the royal members.” Archie and Lilibet Diana’s parents seem to have found the key to success.

The key to success

In closing, the professor explained, “There’s a kind of victimization, like, they had to overcome these challenges. So, for them, I think it’s actually a pretty good story, I think it’s a pretty good way to unify their audience in the United States.” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle formed Archewell shortly after they left the royal family. They also signed juicy deals with Spotify and Netflix to produce content for their platforms. While they have shared very little on it so far, everything seems to be smiling on this rebellious couple.
