In his memoir The Substitute, published on January 10, Prince Harry opens up about the beginnings of his love affair with Meghan Markle. The brother of Prince William reveals the first message that the Duchess of Sussex sent him when they had never met before, reports The Mirror.

Between them, it all started thanks to Instagram. In July 2016, Prince Harry did not expect to see Meghan Markle slip into his personal messaging. However, it is thanks to the social network that the future Sussex couple met while Prince William’s brother was browsing his news feed. Intrigued by a photo of the American actress with “one of the filters of the application – showing her with dog ears” posted on the account of his friend Violet, he wrote to the latter “to ask him who was this mysterious woman”. Violet replied that “he was the seventh person to ask about Meghan,” reports The Mirror.

Far from being discouraged, he agrees that the beautiful brunette adds it on his social networks, he says in his memoirs entitled The Substitute. The next day, he discovered his first message: “Hello! Superb photos”. On his account, Prince Harry then discovers shots of his trip to Africa, his vacation and “inside his house. In their Netflix series-documentary, Harry & Meghan, Archie and Lilibet’s mom says that for her Instagram “was the best way to judge the prince, rather than reading stories about him on the Internet.” “So I went through (his account, ed. note) and it was just like a beautiful photograph,” she continues.

Prince Harry recounts his first night with Meghan Markle

Very quickly, the future royal couple learns to know each other in the greatest secret, and despite the distance. Meghan Markle multiplies trips to London where she finds her future husband. On the fourth date, the couple spent their first night together. “Her friend led me through the maze in the bowels of Soho House and I ended up in front of Meg’s door. I knocked with bated breath. The door opened,” Prince Harry recounts in his memoir.

“With a fluid gesture, she reached out and pulled me inside while thanking her friend, and then slammed the door before anyone saw me,” he continues before noting, “I wish I could say they hung a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the handle. But I don’t think we had time.
