Prince Harry celebrates Christmas away from the British Royal Family. For this first Christmas Eve in California, Meghan Markle wanted to create new traditions.

2020 has been a special year for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Archie’s parents are celebrating their first Christmas in California, far from the British Royal Family. The couple, who announced they were distancing themselves from the monarchy last January, bought a house in Monecito – about 100 miles north of Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles. There they spend the holiday season with their family.

Meghan Markle wanted “that Christmas away from Prince Harry’s England to be special.” According to the same source: “They’re creating their own traditions in their new home.” After sharing their family Christmas card, a beautiful illustration showing the couple with little Archie and their two dogs, the spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said, “The original family photo was taken at their home earlier this month by the Duchess’s mother,” while adding details of the new Sussex traditions: “The little Christmas tree, including the homemade ornaments and other decorations, have been selected by Archie, and the tree will be replanted after the vacations.”

1st Christmas in California

Until December 2019, Harry spent every Christmas at Sandringham Castle with the Queen and the British Royal Family. Last year, Archie’s parents chose a completely different destination. They had celebrated Christmas in Canada, after taking six weeks off, away from the Royal Family. Harry will still be able to see his grandmother on a small screen during his annual Christmas greetings, which are eagerly awaited by the British people this Friday, December 25th.
