According to revelations in Hello! magazine, Joe Biden and Prince Harry have forged a strong bond through the Invictus Games, an international sporting event created by the former military man.

There are friendships you’d never suspect, like that of Joe Biden and Prince Harry. Before the former Duke of Sussex left his royal duties and moved to Florida, an ocean separated the two men. But the distance did not prevent them from forging ties, as Hello! relates.

Their first meeting dates back to… 2013. While on tour in the United States, Prince William’s brother attended a reception for wounded British and American warriors in Washington. A ceremony that Joe Biden, then vice-president of Barack Obama, could not miss.

A year later, it was the turn of Joe Biden and his wife to meet him for the first Invictus Games – a competition created by Prince Harry to honour those who served their country and came away injured. Meghan Markle’s husband finds a seat next to them in a wheelchair basketball game.

Also according to the magazine’s revelations, the vice-president joked about Jill and the former soldier getting along well. “Jill went to London for the last Games,” he reportedly said. She spent too much time with Prince Harry.”

And it is not at the end of its sentence, since the couple becomes a fervent defender of the Invictus Games. In 2016, Prince Harry and Joe Biden meet again to attend the sporting event in Toronto. And of course, always with a smile on their face.

Unfailing political support

Prior to the U.S. presidential election of 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry kept reminding people of the importance of the vote. But if little Archie’s daddy indulged in a few political confidences, the former Duke of Sussex was never able to cast his vote.

In the columns of Time, he confided about this royal custom: “Many of you surely don’t know that I have never been able to vote in my life in the United Kingdom”. He was impatient to be able to slip his ballot into the ballot box, however, he was unable to fulfill his wish.

“I’m not going to be able to vote here in the United States. (…) So it is important to reject hate speech and misinformation.” Despite her call to vote, the actress’s husband did not reveal his political opinion. But her friendship with Joe Biden – who won the election on November 7 – speaks volumes.
