One year ago, on January 13, 2020, Elizabeth II acceded to what would become known as the Megxit. After a memorable crisis meeting in Sandringham, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the United Kingdom to settle on the other side of the Atlantic.
The year 2020 began with loss and uproar for the British royal family. On 8 January, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced on their Instagram account their decision to withdraw from the British Royal Family and become financially independent.
A hard blow for the Queen, Prince Charles and especially Prince William, who had been away from his younger brother for months. The Windsor family is angry. Faced with a fait accompli, they had to retaliate. Queen Elizabeth II then proposed a summit at Sandringham Palace to iron out the situation.
A few hours earlier, Prince Harry had reportedly spoken privately with his grandmother, wanting to explain to her that he had had to precede leaks to the press, before having to confront his father and brother. Later, Prince Charles was reunited with his mother and his two sons William and Harry.
The eldest came to defend the monarchy, the second came to defend love. As for Meghan Markle, she stayed with her son Archie in Canada. A discussion that culminated in an official declaration on January 13, 2020. Despite her disappointment, Elizabeth II indicated that the family “fully” supported the Sussex desire to “create a new life as a young family”. A transitional phase began, with royal titles and financial arrangements still to be defined.
A new life to reinvent away from the UK
Since the summit meeting, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have packed their bags, said goodbye to their staff and flew off to the United States. After Canada, they rented an imposing villa in Los Angeles. Last August, the couple made their dream come true and purchased a superb property in Montecito for 10 million euros.
There, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are spending happy days with their son Archie. Full of projects, the Sussex couple signed juicy contracts with Netflix and Spotify.
A new daily newspaper surrounded by loyal allies. Meghan Markle has got closer to her star friends like Abigail Spencer, Priyanka Chopra and Serena Williams. In their neighbourhood, the Sussex couple lives not far from the famous Ellen deGeneres or Oprah Winfrey who is making it rain or shine in the United States.
On the family side, Doria Ragland proves to be a great grandmother and nanny for little Archie. On his side, Prince Harry can count on the support and the listening of David Foster and his companion Katherine McPhee. A man whom the Duke of Sussex considers to be his surrogate father as he has drifted away from his own people.
