King Charles III is set to receive a grand tribute at the annual Trooping the Colour parade on Saturday 17th June, marking his first celebration since ascending to the throne. While thousands of attendees will flock to the event, one notable absence will be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have not been extended an invitation.

The Return of the King’s Parade. After seven decades of honoring Queen Elizabeth II, the renowned Trooping the Colour parade will now showcase her son as the centerpiece. Dating back to the 1600s, this historic event will see hundreds of British Army soldiers, including Prince Harry, take part on Saturday 17th June. However, according to a recent article from People magazine on Thursday 15th June, neither Prince Harry nor Meghan Markle have received invitations to this national spectacle. Buckingham Palace and the Sussex couple have chosen to maintain silence on the matter.

It was customary for Prince Harry to attend this annual parade during his late grandmother’s reign, and Meghan Markle had joined him on multiple occasions as well. Just one month after their wedding in Windsor Chapel on 19th May 2018, the couple was present among the distinguished guests to witness the celebrations in honor of Queen Elizabeth II. The following year, despite the recent birth of their first child, Archie, on 6th May 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex once again graced the event. However, due to the pandemic, the last two Trooping the Colour events could not be held as usual, with Prince Harry following them remotely from his residence in Montecito, California.

A Challenging Year for Prince Harry

The year 2023 has proven to be a tumultuous one for Prince Harry. It began with the publication of his revealing memoir, “The Substitute,” on 11th January, which shed light on his experiences within the royal family. This candid work spared no one, creating further tension. More recently, Prince Harry made a brief return to London for his father’s coronation ceremony on 6th May, followed by his trial in early June at London’s High Court, where his father took legal action against the Mirror Group Newspapers. Given the strained relationships with his father and brother, Prince Harry chose not to make a stopover at Buckingham Palace.

Stay tuned to uncover the reasons behind this notable omission and to explore the evolving dynamics within the royal family.
