Speaking publicly for the first time since her interview with Oprah Winfrey last March, Meghan Markle talked about how she got the idea to start writing her book, The Bench.

Rather discreet since her shock interview with Oprah Winfrey last March, Meghan Markle is gradually beginning to return to the forefront. The wife of Prince Harry, who just gave birth to their second child, Lilibet Diana, seems to be more fulfilled since she left the United Kingdom in January 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to start a new life first in Canada, then in California, away from the British royal family. In her latest interview, with the American media NPR, and which was conducted before she gave birth, Meghan Markle, who is finally coming out of her silence, tells how the idea of writing her picture book, The Bench, came to her.

For the first Father’s Day, Meghan Markle gave Prince Harry a bench. “I just wanted to give him something sentimental and a place where he could have a connection with our son,” she says. The Bench is a book of illustrations in which fathers and sons sit on a bench, sharing apple juice, waiting for the bus or looking at the stars. Archie and Lilibet’s mother Diana confides that she slipped in “personal memories and anecdotes”. “It’s a love story […] growing up with someone and having that deep connection and trust so that whether it’s good times or bad, you know that person is by your side,” she explains.

A book that gets people talking

Meghan Markle wants readers of her picture book to see it “as a love story that inhabits the story of [her] family.” While The Bench is not a hit in the U.K., as it failed to make the top 50 bestseller list, the book did make it to the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list.

  2. Prince Harry congs on all the good that has happened to your, your wife Meghan and now a 2nd bundle of Joy thank God. It is great you are back in U.K for the unveiling of you mothers statue. Your mum was a sweet, caring person but lives on in you. She is the Angel protecting you no matter the harassment of the palace staff, the BBC, some members of your family please ignore. Move but find quality time with your grandmother she is in a fragile state. Bring the family to see her. Forgive and forget the people that hurt your mother and are now doing the same to you and your family. God is watching and one day they will realise what those two people did was not worthy. They are selfish but Karma still works, God bless you and your family. The world is watching the evil inflicted on innocent Souls. Love you Harry.
