While Meghan Markle is highly criticized for her interview with Oprah Winfrey and her husband, Prince Harry, her friend Serena Williams comes to her rescue with a declaration of love published on Instagram.

“I love you, I adore you, your friend S.” S for Serena Williams. The famous tenniswoman sent a nice message on Instagram to her friend, Meghan Markle, who has been the target of criticism since the broadcast of her interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she and her husband reveal more and more about the behavior of the royal family towards her. “I’m so proud of you, that you’re so brave. I know it’s never easy. You are both strong, you and Harry,” wrote the tennis champion as a caption to a picture with a longer text, still in honour of Archie’s mother. She talks about Prince Harry’s wife in the third person singular, almost in the tone of a press release.

“Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she has experienced,” writes Serena Williams on Instagram. She then goes on to talk more specifically about the accusations made by Meghan Markle in the CBS interview on International Women’s Rights Day. “I know firsthand the sexism and racism that institutions and the media use to slander women and people of color in order to minimize, break and demonize us,” comments Serena Williams on the social network.

A message of hope

Meghan Markle took advantage of the interview to announce that she is expecting a girl for next summer. A child who will be born away from the royal family. And so much the better, according to the sportswoman. “I want Meghan’s daughter, my daughter and your daughter to live in a respectful society,” writes the woman who was friends with Meghan Markle before she joined the royal family, and who eventually thought about suicide.

As a result, Williams warns of “mental health and the consequences of systemic oppression and victimization that are devastating, isolating and all too often deadly. “Keep in mind that the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. There is no law against these things,” concludes the American star.
