Does Meghan Markle have presidential ambitions? Her half-brother speaks out

Political ambitions for the Duchess of Sussex? This would not surprise her half-brother who would imagine her running for the White House.
Meghan Markle has never made a secret of her interest in political issues. But the British newspaper the Daily Express goes even further: it understands that the wife of Prince Harry would one day be interested in the chair of the Oval Office. In addition to royal biographer Tom Bower, who predicted last March that there was “a chance” that Archie and Lilibet’s mother would launch her campaign, the conservative tabloid recalls that one of her former close friends has supported the idea.

Thomas Markle Jr, the older half-brother of the former actress, confirmed this theory a few months ago. The 55-year-old, a glazier by profession, told Australia’s New Idea magazine, “It’s clear she has the personality, determination and energy. That she has presidential ambitions wouldn’t surprise me.” Despite their difficult relationship, Thomas Markle Jr. was keen to assure the one he hasn’t seen since 2011 of his support: “I wish her well and I know that whatever she does, she will do it well.”

From Hollywood to Washington?

The American citizen, close to the Democratic Party, was the first modern British royal to vote in a presidential election across the Atlantic. If her presidential aspirations are confirmed, she could be the first member of the royal family to enter politics. The former Suits star would not be the first to move from Hollywood to Washington. Before her, Ronald Reagan had an acting career before becoming president in 1989 and Arnold Schwarzenegger, known for his role in Terminator, was elected Republican governor of California from 2003 to 2011.
