Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey, who have been friends for several years, could be heading for a war behind the scenes for a rather surprising reason, The Daily Express revealed on Sunday 1 October.
They are very close, but it could well be that they will soon be fighting a pitched battle. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had chosen the papess of the American media, Oprah Winfrey, to reveal their feelings after their departure from England and the Megxit in 2020. It was an interview that caused a stir around the world and revealed the ties between the couple and the television producer.
On Friday 29 September, Californian senator Dianne Feinstein died at the age of 90. While the news is sad, many eyes have turned to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is tasked with filling her now-vacant Senate seat. The names of Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey have been mentioned. The two women could therefore have to compete for votes. The Duchess of Sussex, who is very open about her passion for politics, is said to have received advice from Governor Newsom on several occasions, as The Daily Express reported on Sunday 1 October.
A friendship in turmoil for Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey?
“Meghan is certainly far from a shoo-in, but in the madness of American politics these days, it’s not an impossibility,” one major Democratic donor told the paper, before adding, “Crazier things have happened.” While Oprah Winfrey’s name has been suggested to compete with that of King Charles III’s daughter-in-law, the chances of the wealthy businesswoman taking the vacant Senate seat remain slim. Indeed, a source close to Winfrey told the LA Times last May that she was “not considering taking the seat if it becomes vacant”.
Gavin Newsom himself could also take up the coveted seat. The 55-year-old governor has national ambitions, and many hope he will enter the presidential race and challenge Joe Biden, whom many Americans consider too old. However, he has said that he has no intention of doing so and will instead campaign for the current President. But in politics, things can happen very quickly. For him, as for Meghan Markle or Oprah Winfrey…
