Deployed twice to Afghanistan during his 10 years of service in the British Army, Prince Harry expressed himself on the current situation in the country in a statement on social networks of the Invictus Games Monday, August 16, 2021.

While the Taliban have taken power in Afghanistan, following the withdrawal of the last American troops there, Prince Harry, who has himself been deployed twice in the country during his 10 years of service in the British Army, could not remain silent following this event. Faced with the dramatic situation towards which Afghanistan is currently heading, the Duke of Sussex decided to speak out by launching an appeal “to help each other” within the military community, through a message posted on social networks of the Invictus Games. As a reminder, this is a competition reserved for injured or disabled war veterans, which Prince Harry launched in 2014.

“What is happening in Afghanistan resonates with the international Invictus community. Many of the participating countries and competitors in the Invictus Games family are linked by a shared experience of service in Afghanistan over the past two decades, and for the past several years we have participated alongside the Afghan Invictus Games team,” Meghan Markle’s companion wrote, alongside Invictus Games director Dominic Reid. “We encourage all members of the Invictus network, and the entire military community, to reach out and help each other,” they also added.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will soon produce a documentary series dedicated to the Invictus Games

While the annual event is particularly close to the Duke of Sussex’s heart, Prince Harry is currently working on an Invictus Games-related project with his wife Meghan Markle. As part of the multi-million dollar deal they signed in September 2020 with Netflix, the couple will soon produce a documentary series dedicated to this competition, through his company Archewell Productions. Entitled Heart of Invictus, it will be directed by Orlando von Einsiedel, and produced by Joanna Natasegara. The program will follow several athletes who will participate in the next edition of the Invictus Games. This one will take place in The Hague, in the Netherlands, in 2022.
