For two hours, she returned to her journey within the British royal family, her decision to flee the monarchy and her new life away from London, in Los Angeles. She also discussed her complicated relationship with some members of her family, including her father Thomas Markle and her sister Samantha Markle.
In particular, the Duchess confessed to feeling “betrayed” when her father, Thomas Markle, orchestrated a fake stolen photo shoot just days before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 in exchange for a large sum of money. A mom herself, Meghan shared how difficult it was for her to “forgive” her father, explaining that she didn’t understand how he could turn against her in this way.
“I look at Archie, I think about that child, and I can’t imagine intentionally doing anything to hurt him,” she told Oprah Winfrey. She also admitted to being hurt by the lies of her Thomas Markle, who initially assured Harry that he had nothing to do with the stolen photos. “He was not able to tell the truth and that really marked me, especially now that I am a mother,” said the duchess.
Meghan Markle in indifference to her sister
Still facing the American journalist, the actress of the series Suits mentioned the subject of her half-sister, with whom she also has a very complicated relationship. On January 17, Samantha Markle published The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister: A Memoir, Part One, an explosive autobiography full of damning revelations about Meghan Markle, whom she accuses of having distanced herself from certain members of her family for a wedding that “is not what it seems to be.” Faced with these accusations, the Duchess of Sussex nevertheless appears quite calm. She confided that she has not seen her sister for “18 or 19 years”, and therefore, does not give importance to her slander.
“When you talk about betrayal, the betrayal comes from someone you have a relationship with,” Meghan Markle told Oprah Winfrey. “I’m not comfortable talking about people I don’t know at all. I grew up as an only child, which everyone who knows me knows. And I wish I had siblings.” She pointed out that her half-sister took on the last name “Markle” only after she started dating Prince Harry. A proof, according to her, of a strong desire for attention from Samantha Markle. As a reminder, Samantha Markle, whose real name is Yvonne, was born in 1965 to the union of Roslyn Loveless and Thomas Markle. In the 1970s, the couple separated and Thomas Markle has rebuilt his life with Doria Ragland, the mother of Meghan.
