While Queen Elizabeth II has already stripped them of their titles of Royal Highnesses since Megxit, will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry also lose their Duchy of Sussex?
This is news they probably did not see coming. While Meghan Markle and Harry made their first television appearance in several months on Tuesday, September 22nd as part of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” list and took the opportunity to call on the American people to vote (against Donald Trump, who gave them back well), Sussex, who have already lost their Royal Highnesses titles since Megxit, could lose much more.
While they are settled since this summer in Santa Barbara, where they live in a sublime villa with their son Archie, far from the British monarchy and its constraints, Harry, who has just celebrated his 36th birthday, and Meghan, enjoy today a great freedom, accentuated by the enormous deal at 150 million dollars made with Netflix. But, far from the Crown, and adopting positions far from Buckingham’s image, Sussex could indeed lose all their other royal titles.
Harry and Meghan scorn the rules of royalty
The British journalist Piers Morgan thus confided in the columns of the DailyMail that “the shameless contempt of Meghan and Harry for the rules of neutrality dear to the royal family in politics to get rid of Donald Trump leaves the queen no other choice but to distance herself completely from them by stripping them of all their royal titles”.
That’s all there is to it. If Buckingham has just declared, with respect to Sussex’s political positions, that Harry and Meghan are no longer active members of the royalty, then the sanction may soon fall, and Meghan and Harry may lose, among other things, the Duchy of Sussex.
Royalty does not mix well with politics
Their support for Joe Biden, Donald Trump’s rival for the November election, in a video published on Wednesday, September 23 on the Time website, leaves little room for Buckingham, whose golden rule is not to display his political opinions. So, Meghan and Harry soon to be totally defeated? The future will tell, but who sows the wind, reaps the storm, and the one the Queen will blow may be violent.
