Tina Turner died on Wednesday 24 May at the age of 83. As the Mirror recalled, Prince William was always a big fan of the iconic singer. The heir to the throne revealed in 2021 that he listened to her songs as a reminder of times spent with his mother, Diana, and his brother Harry.

A star passed away on Wednesday 24 May. Tina Turner, rhythm and blues legend and rock’n’roll queen, died at the age of 83 after a long illness in her Swiss chalet on Lake Zurich. Millions of fans are mourning her death, including one in particular who was very attached to the star’s songs – Prince William. The Mirror on Thursday unearthed information that the son of Prince Charles and Lady Diana gave in December 2021 to Time To Walk on Apple Fitness, admitting to having a soft spot for her 1989 song The Best. William is attached to the song because it brings back precious childhood memories with his mother, who died in a car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997, and his younger brother, Harry, with whom he is now estranged.

The Crown Prince revealed that all three of them used to listen to Tina Turner songs in the car on the way to school. It was a habit Diana had started to soothe her eldest child, who was still stressed about returning to boarding school at Ludgrove School in Berkshire. “One of the songs I remember the most and that has been with me all this time and I still love it today is The Best by Tina Turner. Because sitting in the back seat, singing at the top of your lungs, it felt like a real family moment,” he recalled. And he added a tender detail about Princess Diana: “My mother sang at the top of her lungs while she was driving. And even the policeman who was with us in the car would sing along. When I listen to that song now, it reminds me of those car rides and it brings back a lot of memories of my mother.”

Tina Turner’s final resting place

Tina Turner has gone to join Lady Diana in the afterlife, but also her two sons, Craig, who committed suicide in his California home at the age of 59, and Ronnie, who died of cancer at the age of 62 in December 2022. She is survived by her husband, German music producer Erwin Bach, who also owns the chalet in Küsnacht where Anna Mae Bullock, her real name, breathed her last. Bach told the Handelzeitung newspaper that they bought the chalet in 2021, eight years after their marriage, to live there full-time, as Tina Turner obtained Swiss citizenship in 2013. The property reportedly cost the couple $76 million.
