As he has just presented the brand new website of his Foundation, Prince Harry could incur the wrath of his brother, Prince William, by choosing to honor Lady Diana.
The year 2021 has barely begun, but new controversies are already affecting Prince Harry. The latter founded, with Meghan Markle, the Archewell website, which highlights their eponymous foundation, a non-profit association.
When you arrive on the main page of the site, you can see a black and white photo of the Duke of Sussex, on Lady Diana’s shoulders, when he was younger. An old photograph of his wife and mother Doria Ragland is also revealed to online visitors.
In order to promote his association, Prince Harry decided to share a letter, in which he proudly states that he is “the son to his mother. “We believe in the best of humanity, because we have seen it. We have experienced the compassion and kindness, from our mothers and from strangers,” the letter also reads.
The expert on the English royal family gave an interview to the Daily Mail on January 1. Phil Dampier of the same name said the Prince of Wales’ youngest son “exploits Princess Diana’s status” and that Prince William may be “displeased” to learn that his brother is using an image of their mother to promote his own foundation. It must also be said that little Archie’s father makes no mention of the Duke of Cambridge in his letter.
A focus on their mothers rather than their fathers
“I think William will be slightly concerned if Harry uses Diana for one of his charities or business ventures without consulting him and I don’t think he would be happy if Harry seems to be exploiting his mother’s iconic status,” says Phil Dampier.
In any case, Dampier explains Prince Harry’s iconographic choices by the fact that Meghan Markle does not have a good relationship with her father Thomas. The couple could thus have decided to focus on their mothers, since the former actress is very close to hers, just as it was the case for her husband, when he was only a little boy.
