Since they retired from royal duties in January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a strained relationship with Elizabeth II. A situation that has been unraveled during their visit to the monarch on Thursday, April 14, thanks to Princess Eugenie, if we believe Us Weekly’s sources.
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they no longer wished to assume their duties as royalty and, in addition, were moving to the United States, it strongly impacted their relationship with Elizabeth II. Since their departure, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have remained very distant with the 96-year-old Queen, not even introducing her to their daughter Lilibet, born on June 4, 2021.
However, it seems that their relationship has relaxed since the couple made their big return to Europe this Thursday, April 14, for the Invictus Games held in the Netherlands. Before heading to the multi-sport competition for disabled athletes, Archie and Lilibet’s parents made a stop in the UK to see the monarch and Prince Charles in secret at Windsor Castle. According to Us Weekly, Princess Eugenie worked behind the scenes to ease the relationship between the Queen, her grandson and his wife.
Princess Eugenie is the “peacemaker” of the Royal family
The cousin of the Duke of Sussex is indeed perceived as “the mediator or the intermediary” of the royal family, according to the analysis of the royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti. “Princess Eugenie is a peacemaker,” he explained. Eugenie may have been the person who suggested the meeting … or tried to work things out, to establish contact between them.” If it was indeed the princess who worked for this reconciliation, her endeavor was successful since their meeting was very “cordial” and “incredibly warm and good-humored,” according to the Dailymail.
For the expert, it is not surprising that the daughter of Prince Andrew occupies such a role in the royal family: “It is a family very visible to the public, and there will always be family members who will help organize reconciliations. There is always someone in the family who is the peacemaker who tries to connect people after arguments. And if that’s Eugenie’s role, good for her.”
