Meghan Markle’s father throws a spanner in the works about Lilibet’s birth

Interviewed by the Australian version of “60 Minutes”, Thomas Markle revealed that he was very hurt by the way he learned the birth of his granddaughter, Lilibet Diana.

Some saw with the birth of Lilibet Diana the possibility of several reconciliations. Reconciliation of Meghan Markle with the British monarchy, but also with her own family. The Duchess of Sussex, who has been at odds with her father for several years, will she agree to present her baby to Thomas Markle? If the latter said he was “very happy” for his daughter, everything is not settled between them. The father of the duchess has indeed discovered the birth of his granddaughter … by the radio. “I’m not the type to cry … but I’m certainly very hurt,” he said in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, this June 13.

And to continue: “No phone calls (…) I have not spoken to (Meghan) since the two days before her wedding”. A break in the dialogue ratified in 2018 – when Thomas Markle put himself on stage in the celebrity press in exchange for a little money – and which got worse when he revealed the contents of a letter written by his daughter. With the latter’s move to the United States, the former director of photography hopes to reconnect. “If I had done something wrong, I would agree. But I didn’t,” he said. “I just want an answer. Meghan ‘ghosted’ me and now Harry is doing it to his father. (…) None of this makes sense.”

A beautiful and present resentment

The way seems however long. Because the resentment is still very much present. “There are murderers in prison and their families come to see them. I am not a murderer. I made a stupid mistake and I was punished for it. This show they were on, they talk about compassion, there is no compassion for me, no compassion for my family,” complained Thomas Markle.

During the interview with 60 Minutes, he also lashed out at Prince Harry. “He said my daughter was thinking about suicide and he went to the royal family, who did not help him,” he recalled, referring to the Sussexes’ interview with Oprah Winfrey. “Well, you don’t go to the royal family. You pick up the phone and call a doctor! That’s like saying I wanted to leave the house, but nobody opened the door for me. It’s stupid.” Not sure her daughter appreciates the rebuke.
