Meghan Markle’s entrepreneurial life is not as easy as one might think. The Duchess of Sussex is currently facing a legal setback regarding her podcast.
New hard blow for the Duchess of Sussex! While preparations for the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla are moving forward at a rapid pace, the spokesman for the couple formed by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that the Duke had received an invitation to the event. If for the moment nothing is sure, the former actress is nevertheless an accomplished businesswoman and she proves it in her podcast.
In August 2022, Meghan Markle decided to embark on a whole new adventure and launched her own podcast. Archetypes, addresses many themes around feminism and the duchess invited some exceptional celebrities like Serena Williams. It was so successful that it surpassed many established podcasters, such as Joe Rogan, and on December 6, 2022 it was the consecration for the Duchess. During the 48th People’s Choice Awards, she won the award for best podcast of the year. Being entirely part of the production company Archewell Audio that she holds with her husband Prince Harry, it seems that she is facing legal problems.
No patent for Archetypes
If Meghan Markle did file an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the name of her podcast, it was denied and a non-final action was filed on January 18, 2023 against the production company of Archetypes. Archewell Audio has been informed that the patent application was denied on the grounds that there was a “likelihood of confusion.” Archetypes would be “identical in appearance, sound and meaning” to an existing trademark owned by Project Miracle IP Holdings. Archewell Audio has until April to pursue the application, extend it or abandon it.
