Facing Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle and Harry talked about their family relationships. The Duchess mentioned her father, Thomas Markle.
Almost a year after distancing themselves from the royal family of England, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to open up to the world by confiding in the famous American television presenter, Oprah Winfrey. Thanks to this interview aired on CBS on Sunday, March 7, during which no subject was left out, the couple was able to set the truth straight about certain rumors and took full advantage of this television appearance to make some surprising revelations.
For example, they indicated together that they had secretly said “yes” to each other before their official wedding broadcast in front of the whole world, that the skin color of their son Archie had been the subject of several conversations. Also, they announced orally the sex of their second child.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also talked about the “Megxit” and the tense relationships they have had with their loved ones ever since. For example, the former actress spoke of a non-existent relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, who was not present at her wedding. And for good reason, the relationship between Meghan Markle and her father has deteriorated since the latter revealed details of their private life in the tabloids. “I lost my father,” she told Oprah Winfrey. They’ve lost touch and there’s no time for reconciliation.
A broken family
For his part, Prince Harry has indicated that he too has distanced himself from certain members of his family and said he was very “disappointed” by the attitude of his father, Prince Charles, and his brother William when he announced his decision to leave his royal duties. And for good reason, the two men did not support him and “abandoned him financially”. However, Lady Diana’s second son is optimistic. “Time heals all wounds, I hope,” he said.
