This Thursday, May 6, 2021 marks the second birthday of little Archie, the son of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. For the occasion, his parents launched a rather unexpected appeal on the website of their foundation, named Archewell.
On this special day, the press from all over the world had their eyes riveted on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s platform, waiting for a possible publication to celebrate the second birthday of their son, Archie. The royal couple did show their support, appealing for donations to fund vaccination campaigns in developing countries, where access to care is often difficult. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex invited the public to support the Gavi association, which works for the delivery of vaccines around the world, adding that a donation of 5 dollars could finance a dose for a person in need.
“This year, our world continues to be on the road to recovery from COVID-19. Yet too many families are still struggling with the impact of this pandemic. While some places are on the verge of recovery, in many parts of the world, communities continue to suffer… To date, about 80 percent of the 1 billion COVID-19 vaccines that have been administered have been in wealthy countries,” the couple told Archewell before adding, “We can’t truly recover until everyone, everywhere has equal access to the vaccine.” Once again, then, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have chosen to use their influence to help charities.
Archie’s birthday: messages from the royal family
On the other side of the Atlantic, the royal family – the Queen, Charles and Camilla, and Kate and William – sent all their wishes to the little boy for his second birthday. If some Internet users praised the beauty of the gesture in these troubled times in the British Crown, others lamented the lack of novelty in the photos. Indeed, the royal family’s Instagram account rehashed a photo of Archie’s christening from two years ago, as did Charles and Camilla, who recycled the same image from last year. “They don’t have any other picture than that one. It’s really sad”, “You have no recent photo”, “It’s really shameful that they haven’t posted any recent photo of Archie with his family”, some of the comments read.
