Between the spouses of Sussex and Cambridge, the misunderstanding is total since the arrival of Meghan Markle in the Firm. So much so that Kate and William, annoyed by Meghan’s and Harry’s behaviour, were begged to meet Archie after his birth.
Once inseparable, the princes Harry and William have drifted apart over the months, after several disputes that have broken their relationship. Prince Harry, who never appreciated the welcome Meghan Markle received when she joined the royal family, had recognized tensions with his older brother during the filming of a documentary in Africa.
Already highly annoyed by the Cambridge family, Meghan and Harry saw red at the birth of their son. While Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Camilla rushed to the cradle to see the royal baby, Kate and William waited a long week before coming to see their nephew.
“The gossipy friends of the royal family, who sometimes confide certain indiscretions to the media, revealed that William had had a lot of trouble with Meghan and Harry’s diva behaviour at the time of their son’s birth.
And that feeling was confirmed by their reluctance to visit the newborn for eight days,” wrote Robert Lacey, biographer of the royal family, in his book Battle Of Brothers: William and Harry – The Inside Story Of A Family In Turmoil.
To hell with protocol
According to the British biographer, Kate and William have always had a hard time putting up with Meghan and Harry’s attitude to royal protocol. While the Cambridge couple had always abided by the rules imposed on senior members of the Crown, including the presentation of the newborn baby on the front porch of the clinic within hours of delivery, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were quick to point out that they could not be relied upon to honour this tradition. This attitude had particularly annoyed George’s parents, Charlotte and Louis, who had not bothered to introduce their children to little Archie on their first visit.
