Accusations of racism in the Royal family: Meghan Markle could be forced to name names

As The Sun reported on 23 December, Meghan Markle could well find herself up against the wall and forced to name the members of the British royal family who have made racist remarks about her son Archie.

On 1 December, British journalist Omid Scobie published the book End of the Reign – Where the British Monarchy Goes: The Latest Scandals Revealed, in which he discussed accusations of racism within the British royal family. The book caused such a stir, not least because some names were inadvertently revealed in the Dutch version. Meghan Markle, who had implied to Oprah Winfrey in 2021 that members of the British royal family had made remarks about the skin colour of her son Archie (who had not yet been born), had not given an identity.

She reacted after the publication of the book by the man who is often presented as her biographer, assuring sources close to her that she had “never intended to publicly identify” the two members of the royal family who had made remarks deemed racist about her first child. On the other hand, it would appear that the Duchess of Sussex may in future be forced to do so in court. At least that’s what The Sun reported on 23 December. Our Anglo-Saxon confrères mentioned the lawsuit that Samantha, Meghan Markle’s half-sister (who has on several occasions sought to shatter the reputation of her younger sister by making one statement after another in the media), is bringing against the former actress.

An issue that could be put on the table in court

The Duchess of Sussex’s sister sued her for defamation after Prince Harry’s wife said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that she had “grown up as an only child” and had not had much of a relationship with her. Peter Ticktin, who is representing Samantha Markle from Florida, has given assurances that in the event of legal action, he would demand that the royal couple submit to a deposition, to be questioned under oath. It is in this sense that Archie and Lilibet’s mum could be asked to open up about the accusations of racism within the British royal family. If this does indeed happen, Prince Harry’s wife could find herself in a very uncomfortable situation, as she appears to be trying to bury the hatchet with her in-laws, after making one shocking revelation after another about them. According to her sister’s lawyer, Meghan Markle is “a person who wants to be able to say horrible things and [who] doesn’t really care [whether] she is destroying the lives of her family members”.
