Barely has she arrived in the world that the little Lilibet Diana is already talking about her. The first name chosen by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has caused much ink to flow. Several members of the palace have confirmed that the couple did not ask the Queen’s permission before giving their daughter her nickname.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not stop there! A new controversy that Meghan Markle and her husband would have done well without. Usually silent, the mother of little Archie and Lilibet returned to the forefront. The duchess used the site of Archewell, this Wednesday June 16, to make an important statement.
On June 8, Meghan Markle released her first-ever children’s book, The Bench. While the book doesn’t seem to be a sensation in the UK, it has risen to number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Meghan Markle is proud to say that her children’s book showed “another side of masculinity”.
She went on to say, “Although this poem began as a love letter to my husband and son, I am encouraged to see that these universal themes of love, representation and inclusion are resonating in communities around the world.” According to the former actress, her book could help “model a world that so many people would like to see for their sons and daughters,” she says.
Plagiarism avoided
The Bench was inspired by a poem the Duchess of Sussex wrote for Prince Harry on Father’s Day, shortly after Archie was born. The book explores “the special bond between a father and son, as seen through the eyes of a mother. But lo and behold, even before it was published, the tale was targeted by accusations of plagiarism. Meghan Markle would have been a little too inspired by another children’s book, The boy on the bench. A rumor that was quickly stifled by the author of the book concerned.
