Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have kept their promise and last September they repaid the work done at Frogmore Cottage. Several million pounds that the press said it would take years to pay back. But all it took was a juicy contract signed with Netflix to make it simple.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry also agreed to pay back the extensive work on their Frogmore Cottage home by giving up a leading role in the British Royal Family in January 2020. In September 2020, the Sussex family therefore paid off their £2.4 million (€2.7 million) debt. But how did they manage to raise such a large sum so quickly? According to the British media group Press Association, Meghan and Harry can thank Netflix.
Eager to go it alone, the Sussex had no choice but to find a quick way to make money. While they have been heavily criticised for their expensive lifestyle Meghan and Harry are also an object of fascination for the whole planet.
The Netflix streaming platform has hit the big time by offering the couple a contract to produce films, series and documentaries last September. The amount of the contract has not been communicated by Netflix, but it is rumoured to be as high as 150 million dollars. The 2.4 million pounds of work done at Frogmore Cottage then appears to be a trifling matter.
Relief for the couple
According to an insider who confided in Express.co, Meghan and Harry were “extremely relieved and happy” to be able to pay off their debt so quickly. While the anonymous source said the Queen never asked them to repay the money, “it was a proactive approach” on their part. “It was important for them to do so, and after the Netflix deal, they were able to take action,” the source concludes.
