For the past few days, Queen Elizabeth II has been following the world-famous Ascot horse races from her home. And this Wednesday, June 17, the sovereign learned some very good news!
This is one of the most eagerly awaited annual events for Queen Elizabeth II: the week of the Royal Ascot Races. Only this year, due to the Coronavirus epidemic, the horse racing event is being held from 16 to 20 June, behind closed doors, because of the health crisis.
“I send my best wishes to the thousands of professional and enthusiastic runners who will take part in the Royal Ascot celebrations this year. In these difficult times, we are once again delighted to welcome the best hair and jockeys from all over the world,” the Sovereign said in a statement.
This year, Queen Elizabeth II followed the horse races from Windsor Castle, accompanied by her husband Prince Philip. And the 94-year-old sovereign received good news on Wednesday 17 June, the second day of the event! One of her horses, named Tactical, driven by jockey James Doyle, won a race, as People reported. And ironically, the horse in question won a race called the “Windsor Castle Stakes”.
Hair that brings in a lot of money
As a riding enthusiast, the nonagenarian sovereign owns and operates many racehorses. According to information from Le Point in 2017, Queen Elizabeth II would have earned more than 7.77 million pounds in thirty years, i.e. more than 8 million euros.
According to the specialized site myracing.com, Elizabeth II’s horses have a success rate of 16%, a very good ratio. Unfortunately, Prince Philip’s wife was unable to celebrate this great victory on the spot, as she followed her from home. This was the first time she had attended the equestrian event from home, the first time in her 68-year reign.
