Meghan and Harry: Thomas Markle reacts to the birth of his granddaughter Lilibet

0

Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s father sent his congratulations to his daughter and son-in-law, Prince Harry on the birth of their little Lilibet.

This Friday, June 4, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their second child. A little girl who answers to the sweet name of Lilibet Diana. A happy event to which did not fail to react Thomas Markle, the father of the young mother and this despite the conflicting relations he has with her. He told The Sun that he was “very happy” that the birth of his daughter went well before wishing them “the best” and “all his love”. A tender reaction for the least unexpected when we know that the former actress of the TV series Suits, has not seen her father since she married Harry in May 2018.

Their relationship had deteriorated considerably, especially when the ex-husband of Doria Ragland had agreed to make a pact with the paparazzi and monetize photos of him in the tabloid press, just before the Sussex nuptials. He had also given several interviews in which he drew a less than complimentary portrait of his daughter. If he claims to have apologized “a hundred times” for this mistake that he bitterly regrets, Meghan still considers on her side to have been “betrayed” and does not want to reconnect with her father.

During her interview with Oprah last March, the Duchess of Sussex had also mentioned her conflict with her father, suggesting that she was not ready to go back on her positions: “We called my father and I asked him if he had organized the fake paparazzo. He said, ‘No, absolutely not!’ I told him, ‘I need you to tell me the truth, and if you tell me the truth we can help you.’ But he wasn’t able to do that. And that resonated with me, especially as a mother,” she said.

Thomas Markle not ready to meet Lilibet?

Bruised by his daughter’s contempt for him, Thomas Markle has never really had the opportunity to meet his grandson Archie. A situation that risks being repeated with Lilibet, as explained by the royal biographer Robert Jobson to the Daily Mail: “As things stand, it seems unlikely that the grandfather will meet his new granddaughter for some time,” he estimated before adding: “Perhaps in due course he will meet her, but for the time being, the couple will not give her priority for obvious reasons.

A hard blow for the 76-year-old who hopes that Meghan will reconsider her decision: “That was two years ago. I tried to make it up to her. I am 110 kilometers from her home. I never stopped loving her. I don’t agree with everything my kids do, but I will always love them. And I love Meghan,” he said on Good Morning Britain last March.
