Elizabeth II “devastated”: why she blames Meghan Markle

1

Meghan Markle does not hide her resentment towards the royal family in her lawsuit against the Daily Mail. Her reproaches are directed at Queen Elizabeth, who had publicly supported her.

Meghan Markle attacked the British media in her lawsuit against the Daily Mail, and took advantage of the occasion to settle her scores with the royal family. Court documents reveal that the Duchess of Sussex feels that they did not protect her, and does not appreciate having received fewer benefits than Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, much to Sarah Ferguson’s chagrin.

Already shaken by Megxit and coronavirus, and full crisis management while Prince Andrew is entangled in the Epstein scandal, the royal family is “devastated” by these accusations.

Daily Mail journalist Russell Myers reported on Queen Elizabeth’s disappointment in the Pod Save the Queen podcast on Thursday 2 July. He said the monarch has always supported Meghan Markle in the face of criticism. He said the statements the Queen made about her as they prepared to leave the royal family were “always very, very sincere”.

The queen “impressed by Meghan”

“The Queen said how impressed she was with Meghan and how she welcomed her into her family,” he said. Russell Myers points to “their first official engagement in Chester” in June 2018 as an example. Prince Harry’s grandmother and the former actress, not yet married, had travelled to the northern English city together and seemed to be in cahoots. If they were all smiles at the time, it was because they had no idea what was in store for them: a stormy divorce, which was in the media and now in the courts.
