The news shakes a fashion planet that has been at a standstill since the beginning of the pandemic. Clare Waight Keller, now ex-Artistic Director of the House of Givenchy, is leaving her post. She had notably dressed Meghan Markle for her wedding to Prince Harry.

Coronavirus and containment forced the fashion planet to shut down. She is trembling following a mercato news: Meghan Markle’s friend Clare Waight Keller has left the artistic direction of the house of Givenchy.

This news, Clare Waight Keller made it official herself on social networks, this Friday, April 10, 2020. The 49-year-old British designer announced that she was leaving Givenchy, of which she became artistic director in 2017.

She writes, as a caption to a black and white photo of herself in the Haute Couture house’s studio: “After three superb years, the time has come to complete my chapter at Givenchy. As the first woman to become artistic director of this legendary house, I feel honored to have been given the opportunity to cherish her legacy and bring new life to it.”

“I have shared many incredible moments with the brilliant Givenchy studio and creative teams. Your exceptional talent and dedication will always be remembered… I now look forward to the next episode (…). I’ll see you soon, and above all, stay safe,” adds and concludes Clare Waight Keller.

The Birmingham, England native also posted the video of the finale of Givenchy’s Fall/Winter 2018 Haute Couture fashion show. The event took place on July 1, 2018 in Paris.

Clare Waight Keller had joined Givenchy following the departure of the designer Riccardo Tisci. She had arrived from the house of Chloé, where Natacha Ramsay-Levi, former right-hand man of Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton, had replaced her.

At Givenchy, Clare Waight Keller designed the first men’s and Haute Couture collections of her career. In particular, she distinguished herself by designing Meghan Markle’s wedding dress for her wedding to Prince Harry on May 19, 2018. A few months after the happy event, the Duchess of Sussex made a notable appearance at the Fashion Awards in London to present her designer friend with the British Ready-to-Wear Designer of the Year award.

The two women became friends, to the point that a rumour had it that Meghan Markle and the house of Givenchy were planning a fashion collaboration.
