Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: this legacy they’ll have to give up on

When they became independent, the Sussexes gave up everything they owned in England. When Prince Charles becomes king, they are expected to lose yet another central piece of their heritage.

Meghan and Prince Harry gave up a lot to move to California to live their lives. In addition to the financial support of the Crown, they had to give up their home Frogmore Cottage, which they had taken so long to renovate and make to their liking. But that’s not the only royal residence they will no longer be investing in. According to the Daily Mail, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were to inherit Clarence House, Prince Charles‘ current home, upon the Queen’s death. Charles had everything planned for the day he would accede to the throne. But the “Megxit” has changed his plans somewhat.

When he becomes king, Charles does not want to live at Buckingham Palace with Camilla, or even at Balmoral, which he wants to turn into a museum in honor of Queen Elizabeth II. He plans to invest in an apartment, similar to the one reserved for the Prime Minister in Downing Street. Prince William and Kate should invest the walls of Windsor Castle, which Prince Charles finds “too noisy” for him.

Nobody really likes Clarence House

The Clarence House estate will not be sold, nor will it be immediately transferred to another member of the Royal family. “No one really likes Clarence House, because it’s still considered the Queen Mother’s house,” a source told the Daily Mail. The premises will probably be open to the public and turned into a museum until George, Charlotte or Louis are old enough to live on their own and entitled to a royal residence.

What about Sandringham, the royal family’s private residence and the scene of the Christmas reunion? Prince Charles has not yet made a decision on this matter. But he should also open it more to the public, without making it a permanent tourist spot.
