Meghan Markle is not really aware of all the protocols, unlike Queen Elizabeth II, who has been at the head of the country for 63 years. For her wedding with Prince Harry, the former actress had chosen to wear a superb emerald tiara.
A jewel that she finally did not wear, following the advice of the Monarch. Queen Elizabeth II dissuaded the young woman from choosing this tiara, believing that this gesture could have caused controversy.
The choice of the tiara, a hot topic according to some experts who claim that Prince Harry went so far as to argue with his grandmother. According to writer Robert Lacey, Queen Elizabeth II did have a say in the matter by refusing to allow Meghan to wear the tiara she had previously chosen.
And for a very special reason. “Unconfirmed by the palace – but not denied – we were told that the Queen felt she had to say ‘no’ to Meghan’s first choice, a beautiful emerald tiara that was presented as ‘from Russia’,” says the biographer, quoted in The Mirror.
Prince Harry, furious
It was then a code referring to certain jewels that had inexplicably landed in the hands of the royal family, after the Russian revolution. “That’s why this emerald tiara is rarely, if ever, displayed to the public and it would not suit the palace or Meghan herself if newspapers started speculating” about the origin of the jewel.
Robert Lacey then confirms the rumour that Prince Harry was furious with the Queen, not understanding the reasons for this refusal. “Unfortunately, Harry’s ignorance of both history and family tradition meant that he had no knowledge of this subtlety,” he concluded.
