The little Lilibet Diana has shown up! The daughter of Meghan and Harry was born this Friday, June 4, at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, announced the happy parents two days later. A happy event for the couple exiled in California, who took care to choose two names in tribute to Elizabeth II and Diana. Once official, the birth of the little princess was followed by a wave of emotion on social networks.
“Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana! The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with this news,” said the royal family on its official Instagram account, along with a photo of Meghan and Harry’s wedding. The opportunity for the British crown to recall that little Lili is the eleventh great-granddaughter of the monarch.
In the evening, Kate and William also reacted to the news, with a short message on Instagram, similar to the Queen’s statement. “We are delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili, congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie,” shared Harry’s brother and his wife, accompanying their short note with an adorable photo of pregnant Meghan Markle, tenderly hugging her little Archie next to her husband. For their part, Prince Charles and Camilla posted a photo of the couple, surrounding Lilibet Diana’s older brother all smiles. “We wish them all the best for this moment,” Harry’s father and his partner said on Instagram.

By giving birth to her second child, Meghan Markle made her youngest daughter go down in history: having been born in the United States to an African-American mother, Lilibet Diana is the very first mixed-race heiress of the British crown, as well as being the first to be born outside London! The little girl may not have a royal title but will still be bi-national, due to her birthplace, California, and the British nationality of her father.
Note that Meghan and Harry have flouted the royal protocol: they announced themselves the birth of their newborn, two days after the delivery.
