In 2018, Catherine Elizabeth Middleton reportedly made Meghan Markle cry, just days before her wedding to Prince Harry. Five years on, the grudges are reportedly still raw for the Duchess of Sussex, according to an article published this Tuesday 1 August in the Daily Mirror.
The bridesmaids incident is still reverberating. While the royal family was busy wrapping up the final preparations for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – which took place on 19 May 2018 in St George’s Chapel in Windsor – a violent altercation reportedly broke out. Just days before the wedding, Catherine Elizabeth Middleton reportedly made Meghan Markle cry. The reason? The former wanted to make changes to the bridesmaids’ outfits, while the latter objected. Five years on, Archie and Lilibeth’s mother still hasn’t come to terms with the whole affair, according to a source who told the Daily Mirror on 1 August.
“Meghan believes that they never took responsibility for the way they treated her when she was part of the royal family. That they’ve never apologised and that they’re still holding the line on this.” For his part, Prince Harry claimed in his memoir The Substitute (published on 10 January) that he found his future wife on the floor in tears following the altercation.
However, when the Duchess of Sussex’s representatives were approached by the British daily, they assured us that Catherine Elizabeth Middleton had had flowers delivered to her sister-in-law after the incident. More importantly, Meghan Markle herself had admitted that the mother of George, Charlotte and Louis had apologised to her.
“She acknowledged her wrongs and apologised”.
It was on the set of Oprah Winfrey, on 8 March 2021. For three years, rumours of arguments relayed by the British tabloids indicated that it was Meghan Markle who had made Catherine Elizabeth Middleton cry, but the Duchess of Sussex set the record straight on the set of CBS. When the famous presenter asked her: “Has there ever been a situation in which [Catherine Elizabeth Middleton] could have cried?” the former Suits star surprised everyone by replying: “No, no. It’s the opposite. The opposite happened. And I’m not saying that to be derogatory towards anyone, because it happened during one of the difficult weeks leading up to the wedding.” She continued, “She was upset about something, but she admitted she was wrong and apologised.”
Now, with these latest revelations, it’s hard to know whether Meghan Markle’s grudge against Catherine Elizabeth Middleton is well and truly behind her.
