The Duke of Sussex, who is very committed to the protection of the planet, lent his voice to a video and spoke of the inspiring role of his grandfather, who was also involved in environmental conservation throughout his life, as reported in the British newspaper The Sun. “On this Earth Day, I reflect on the generations of conservation champions, including my late grandfather, and I feel proud and motivated to continue to do my part in that legacy,” Meghan Markle’s husband said.
“As we begin to move into an era of global regeneration, and it is essential that we continue the strengthening and protection of biodiversity,” Prince Harry insisted. It is, according to him, “a value we hold”, but even more “a vital responsibility for our way of life”.
A close relationship with Africa
The video clip he is narrating for the 51st Earth Day is called “Hope starts here”. It highlights the conservation work of the African Parks organization, of which he has been president since 2017. Harry is helping this NGO, which manages 19 national parks in 11 African countries, to grow to 30 parks by 2030. Lady Diana’s youngest son maintains a close link with the African continent: it was with a diamond from Botswana that he proposed to his future wife.
In his video released on April 22, the prince highlights “the importance of resourcing national parks and conservation areas to help provide essentials like air and water quality, food security, jobs, education and healthcare,” Omid Scobie, a friend of the prince and also author of the book Finding Freedom, a biography of the couple he forms with Meghan Markle, said on Twitter.
