While they are tried and tired, the Sussex couple has been through a difficult ordeal with the Megxit. As Omid Scobie, the editor of Bazaar.com, reveals, they have suffered greatly from this situation.
While Meghan Markle was overwhelmed to bid farewell to her team, Prince Harry had to give up his military honours, “a wound that will take time to heal”. As a reminder, he served in the British Army for ten years, completing two tours in Afghanistan as a captain before founding the Invictus Games for Injured Veterans.
In an op-ed published on Bazaar.com, Omid Scobie gives a touching account of the recent events in the couple’s life: “To say that they were wiped out is an understatement.
It’s a decision that the couple still considers unnecessary, but it was not a surprise either, given the lack of support they received while they were relentlessly attacked by sections of the British press with almost daily untruths and hateful comments,” he writes.
He continues: “While the recent tabloid media coverage gave the impression that the Sussex wanted it all, the reality was that the couple had no choice but to create their own change after being left on their own in impossible circumstances – even during their pregnancy. They knew something had to change, but they didn’t want to stop supporting the Queen either.”
The journalist then went on to comment on the lack of support from the British royal family during the incessant attacks by the British tabloids: “One cannot help but wonder whether things might have been different if one or two members of the family had stood up for them during the darkest moments,” he concluded.
For his part, Patrick Jephson, Princess Diana’s former private secretary, warned the Windsor family that the Sussex couple would soon be free to give interviews, even write books, and thus give their version of their quarrel with the royal family. Revelations that could shake the crown!
