Family comes first. According to our sources, Queen Elizabeth phoned Prince Harry to ask him to continue to defend the royal family, even though he has retired from his royal duties. The latter would have accepted, but will he succeed in fulfilling his commitment?
During his interview with James Corden, broadcast on the Late Late show this Thursday, February 25, Prince Harry spoke about his Zoom video conference conversations with Queen Elizabeth II. A few days earlier, she would have asked him to “defend her family’s values”. “Harry spoke to the Queen and she told him that she was thrilled that he had found happiness.
She wants only the best for him and his family,” our source said. In this “very harmonious conversation between a caring grandmother and her grandson,” the 94-year-old monarch is said to have warned Diana’s youngest son. “He knows he has a duty to the royal family and he reiterated his promise never to do anything to embarrass them,” the source said.
A broken promise? While this warm exchange must have reassured the Queen, her fears were quickly rekindled with the announcement of an interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry conducted by Archie’s mother’s friend, Oprah Winfrey.
Their first interview since the loss of their last royal titles will air on Sunday, March 7. A date that would particularly annoy the royal family since the show should be on the air just after the Queen’s speech, which would therefore risk going unnoticed. The BBC would have refused to broadcast the show, which can still be watched on CBS in the United States.
At the Palace, our sources cited denounce a “useless” media appearance that “has caused concern. By announcing that they “would still be living a life of service” just a few minutes after Buckingham Palace’s announcement that they no longer work for the royal family, Archie’s parents would be showing disrespect for Elizabeth II. But, she can rest assured, Prince Harry would not have forgotten his promise, and neither would his wife.
Harry will not want to upset her
“Meghan will talk about marrying into the royal family, being a mother and how she coped with the intense pressure of being a leading personality, but I don’t think she will want to criticize members of the royal family. Harry is always very close to the Queen and won’t want to upset her,” says Emily Nash of Hello magazine.
On James Corden’s show this Thursday, February 25, Prince Harry managed to talk about his discomfort within the royal family without attacking her head-on. “It was a very difficult environment, as I think a lot of people have seen. We all know how the British press behaves. And it was destroying my sanity. It was toxic. So I did what any husband and father would have done – I got my family out of there,” he explained on the Late Late show.
The Netflix contractor also agreed to talk about The Crown series, which has often brought the royal family to their knees. “It’s fiction, but it’s very freely inspired by the truth. Of course it’s not accurate, but it gives you a good idea of the lifestyle and the pressures that go with it. I’m much more comfortable with ‘The Crown’ than with the stories about my family, my wife and me that I see going around,” Archie’s father explained. A statement that his brother William or grandmother would probably not have agreed with.
