The 40×40 operation is launched this Wednesday, August 4. It is not a James Bond mission, but an associative mission initiated by Meghan Markle, on the occasion of her 40th birthday. On the website of Archewell, a foundation created by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle reveals in video her plan to help unemployed women.
But before getting down to business, Meghan Markle joked with her friend, actress Melissa McCarty (Ghostbusters). The two actresses play a fake video conference in which the actress of the film Spy will try to find a way to celebrate the 40th birthday of the Duchess of Sussex. The actress, known for her humor, then proposes ideas more zany than the others: a “photoshoot under a tree”, a tattoo on the effigy of the two actresses with the phrase: “best friends forever”, a meeting of the actors of the series Suits, or a party on a yacht.
All these ideas are brushed aside by Meghan Markle, who responds more seriously, “Because I’m turning 40, I’m asking 40 friends to give 40 minutes of their time to help women get back on track.” Prince William’s sister-in-law explains where she got the idea for the mobilization. “More than two million women in the United States and tens of millions of women around the world have lost their jobs because of the coronavirus crisis,” she says, facing her friend. Meghan Markle hopes that this operation will be a success: “I think that if we all do it and see everyone engage in some kind of act of service, we can have some kind of domino effect she concluded.
