Meghan Markle mom to Archie and Lilibet, rare confession about her kids: “I think about how lucky I was”

Usually rather discreet on this subject, Meghan Markle agreed to make some rare confidences about her two children. After the decision of the Supreme Court to revoke the constitutional right to abortion in the United States, the wife of Prince Harry wished to express herself in the columns of Vogue.

Meghan Markle is committed and does not hide it. Since she distanced herself from the British royal family, the Duchess of Sussex has spoken out on a variety of topics, ranging from parental leave to the U.S. presidential elections. Naturally, she could not sit idly by when she learned that the Supreme Court had decided to revoke the constitutional right to abortion in the United States, leaving each state free to ban abortion. Following this decision, which caused strong reactions, well beyond the borders, Vogue magazine had the idea to organize a discussion between Meghan Markle and her feminist friend Gloria Steinem. During this interview unveiled this Tuesday, June 28, the wife of Prince Harry made rare confidences about her two children, Archie and Lilibet Diana.

“I think about how lucky I was to have my two children. I know what it feels like to have a connection with what’s growing inside your body. What happens with our bodies is so personal, which can also lead to silence and stigma, even though so many of us are dealing with personal health crises,” she shared as a preamble, before opening up about her miscarriage, “I know what a miscarriage looks like, which I’ve spoken about publicly. The more we normalize the conversation about things that affect our lives and our bodies, the more people are going to understand how necessary it is to have protections in place,” she opined to our Vogue brethren.

Prince Harry “feminist” according to Meghan Markle

On the subject of abortion, Archie and Lilibet’s mother said, “No one should be forced to make a decision that they don’t want to make, that is not safe or that puts their own life at risk. Frankly, whether it’s a woman placed in an unthinkable situation, a woman who is not ready to start a family, or even a couple who deserves to plan their family in the way that is best for them, it’s about having a choice.” Moreover, she says, this issue should not just be about women: “Men need to speak up right now and beyond, because these are decisions that affect relationships, families and communities as a whole. They may target women, but the consequences affect us all,” she assured, before making a confidence: “My husband and I have talked about it a lot in the last few days. He’s also a feminist (…) And his reaction last week was guttural, like mine.” And her friend Gloria Steinem confirms: “I can attest to that because I met him before I met you. He was at a big meeting I attended and he was advocating for people’s rights.”
