Meghan Markle at the beginning of a long career

Interviewed by the British media Express, this Monday, May 10, the journalist Omid Scobie and friend of Meghan Markle believed that the Duchess of Sussex could have a great future in writing books for young people.

Meghan Markle’s very first children’s book hasn’t even been published yet, but it’s already getting a lot of press. Entitled The Bench, the book, in which the Duchess of Sussex subtly evokes Prince Harry’s regret at losing his military titles, will be available for sale on June 8. In the British media Express, this Monday, May 10, the journalist Omid Scobie, specialist in the British royal family, gave his opinion on the upcoming release of the first book of Archie’s mother, which was inspired by a poem she had written for Father’s Day.

Already, it seems that “pre-orders for the book have already passed” and that “it is soaring in the rankings of Amazon US”, as explained by the one who is also a friend of Meghan Markle. A publication that should therefore be a success, given the enthusiasm of buyers for the children’s book, since the surprise announcement of its release. According to Omid Scobie, “this is the beginning of a long career” in writing, for the wife of Prince Harry.

“And perhaps a way to take the temperature for other writings in the future,” he said to our colleagues. The 39-year-old journalist also stressed that Meghan Markle’s project “is also part of a long tradition of royal authors.” He took the example of the children’s book The Old Man of Lochnagar, written by Prince Charles in 1980.

Sarah Ferguson, a duchess who takes up romance writing

“So she is not the first, nor the last royal princess to write a children’s book,” added the friend of the one who is expecting her second child, who sees this new project in a positive light. According to him, the book “looks cute” and the “illustrations”, made by Christian Robinson, are “superb”. Another British royal to have written children’s books: Sarah Ferguson, in the 1980s and 1990s. The Duchess of York will also publish her first ever romance book, Her Heart for a Compass, this July.
