Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s public pronouncements are not to everyone’s liking. For several weeks now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been making repeated calls for votes in the upcoming U.S. elections, violating royal protocol by flaunting their political views. This was enough to attract the wrath of Elizabeth II, but also Jason Smith, Republican congressman from Missouri.
“I am therefore concerned by the recent comments of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex regarding the U.S. presidential election, particularly in light of international conversations about foreign interference in our elections and the Duke’s status as a guest of the United States,” said Jason Smith reports The Mirror, which also denounced the Sussex couple’s “barely concealed views”. For while they never revealed which candidate they supported, the former actress never hid her aversion to the Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Meghan and Harry “stripped” of their titles?
In a letter sent to the UK Ambassador to the United States, the Congressman asked that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry be “stripped of all titles, styles and privileges they currently hold” if they wished to speak in this election, or that the government ask them to stop trying to “interfere” in the election.
A blow of anger that is unlikely to settle things between the Sussex couple and Elizabeth II, already very unhappy that her grandson is taking such positions on American politics. “A red line has been crossed.
