A first trailer of the interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry was unveiled by CBS. On the video, the Duchess of Sussex displays “an enigmatic smile” which reminds us of another one: that of Lady Diana during her shock interview for the Panorama program in 1995.

This Monday, March 1, the American channel CBS aired a first trailer of the much-anticipated interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to television star Oprah Winfrey. During this sequence, the Duchess of Sussex does not speak, but we see her address “an enigmatic smile” in response to the host who declares: “Were you silent or have you been silenced? I just want to make it clear to everyone, there is no forbidden subject”.
According to body language expert Judi James, this behaviour is reminiscent of Princess Diana’s behaviour in her 1995 interview with Martin Bashir for the BBC’s Panorama programme, as reported in the Daily Mail. Except for one detail: while Lady Diana was clearly overcome with sadness when she spoke of Prince Charles’ infidelity and her romance with Camilla Parker-Bowles, Meghan Markle seems calmer. While the Duchess of Sussex says nothing during the trailer, her facial expressions and gestures still carry meaning, notes Judi James.
Her clumsy look contrasts with her self-confidence
At this moment, the attitude of the Duchess of Sussex suggests confidence, without being defensive or distrustful. Prince Harry’s wife sits with her back straight in the center of his chair. She seems to be in control of herself,” says body language expert Judi James. This suggests that Meghan Markle was well prepared for the questions that came her way.
Later in the trailer, Meghan Markle shakes hands with Prince Harry “protectively” and strokes his baby bump as he compares their situation to his mother’s and expresses concern that “history will repeat itself. For his part, the Duke of Sussex sits in front of his seat in a manner that suggests he is eager to talk, but his awkward demeanor contrasts with his wife’s assertiveness. Looking serious, far from wanting to clown around as in the recent The Late Late show, he seems determined to make his truth heard.
