Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: why they hope to celebrate Christmas with Elizabeth II

0

Blocked in the United States where the borders are closed because of the coronavirus, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry hope to be able to return to the United Kingdom to celebrate Christmas with the royal family.

It is their dearest wish to celebrate the end of the year. Now settled in California after relinquishing their status as senior members of the royal family, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are still stranded in the United States, where borders have been closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But if the situation in the country does not improve, with more cases and deaths every day, they have “hope” that by Christmas, the situation will return to normal.

After skipping last year’s festivities at Elizabeth II’s house, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex hope to be able to celebrate Christmas at Sandringham with the Royal Family this year.

And this to spend time with the Queen and allow her to see her great-grandson Archie, and “in particular” to enjoy Prince Philip, whose 99-year old health has been in poor shape for several months, the Daily Star reports.

The opportunity also for them to revive the “tradition of family vacations” that “they both really loved in the past”.

Elizabeth II could change castle for Christmas

However, if they manage to join the Windsor family for the holidays, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be disappointed. Indeed, until the Covid-19 pandemic improves, the Royal Family’s Christmas celebrations will be somewhat disrupted because of a very special protocol: the famous rule of six.

Indeed, in the private sphere, gatherings may soon be limited to six people, the government of Boris Johnson recently specified, which will not allow Windsor to gather all together.

What’s more, the Queen is already “furious” that her Christmas could be held at Windsor Castle for the first time in 33 years, because of her staff.
