Since joining the British royal family, Meghan Markle has been a sensation. The wife of Prince Harry opened the doors to new opportunities for the press, according to a royal commentator, as told by the Express UK this November 23.
It was in 2016 that the relationship between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle came to light. For the media, it was an opportunity not to be missed. She was like an “angel sent from heaven” when she joined the royal family of England, according to statements by Robert Jobson in the documentary The Princes and The Press, which aired on British television channel BBC Two on November 22. The editor of the London Evening Standard said that “this glamorous and beautiful woman” had opened up “a whole new area of media coverage and stories”, as revealed by the Express UK on Tuesday 23 November.
It was Camilla Tominey who had revealed their relationship on the front page. “I wasn’t familiar with her name, I don’t think anyone was at the time, (…) unless they’d watched Suits, the courtroom series she starred in,” the royal commentator explains in the documentary. She remembers that when her diary came out, “all hell broke loose”. This was indeed the beginning of the media storm around Meghan Markle.
A series of testimonials about the British Royal family
The BBC documentary including several episodes “explores the years following the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the media’s positive reaction to the emergence of a new generation of royals,” as explained in their description. Directed by Amol Rajan, the series investigates the relationship between the media and the princes and princesses of the royal family. In each episode, journalists and royal experts are invited to testify.
To give more weight to its report, the BBC asked Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and Clarence House for their opinion. In their response, they made it clear that they did not entirely agree with the concept of the documentary: “All too often, exaggerated and unfounded claims from anonymous sources are presented as fact and it is disappointing that anyone, including the BBC, would give them credibility.
